I captured this excited pileated woodpecker on the edge of some deep woods, on a hot dusk in august 2010. It was about 7:30 on a calm night at the edge of the shawnee national forest. The tempurature was 85 degrees. What i find really enjoyable though is the rising, and ebbing and flowing of, i believe the typical summer cicadas. Recorded using my zoom h4n recorder using the internal buil-in microphones.

A mid-summer recording of the shawnee national forest in illinois featuring the singing of two popular summer visitors: (1) indigo bunting and (2) white-eyed vireo. I really enjoy hearing these calls because, while beautiful in their own right, they also signify the soon-to-be summer coming to a close. Recording made on august 6, 2022 at about 2pm in a clearing surrounded byseveral dozen black walnut trees, and, beyond those, thick, midwestern, insect-laden summer woods. Common terns are pale gray overall with a black cap. Breeding birds have a fully black cap that extends to the back of the neck and a gray belly. Terns comes from lac des chanteraines next to paris. I love listen to terns next to highway. It’s a pretty shocking contrast of noise pollution.
